In a world of cold and brittle stone, A weary heart, a lonely throne. They take and use, then turn away, With careless words at close of day. It's sad to want to give so much, A gentle word, a loving touch. To pour out light in fields of gray, And chase the shadows all away. I offer kindness like a shield, On a battlefield I cannot yield. A smile that’s meant to break the ice, A helping hand without a price. But doors are slammed and faces frown, The weight of sorrow brings me down. They see the giving, not the need, And plant a doubt, a bitter seed. I want to help, to be a guide, With nowhere left for pain to hide. To mend the hurt and soothe the fear, And find a warmth for all who're here. But still, I stand with open hand, Misunderstood in this cold land. To be a flame without the burn, A lesson love has yet to learn. To give myself and not be used, A hopeful heart, too often bruised. Still, in this chill, I will not fade, My love, a promise softly made. For even in this lonely fight, A single spark can hold the light. My heart will stay, though hurt and sore, And wait for those who need it more
