There is a strength that is not born of muscle, A quiet, firm stand in the hurricane's hustle. It's the anchor you drop when the currents run high, The resolute gaze in a questioning eye. It is having a backbone, a core made of steel, The conviction to speak what the conscience can feel. It means saying "No" when the easier path Would lead you to compromise, facing no wrath. It’s the silent refusal to bend with the breeze, To sacrifice truth just to feel yourself ease. It’s knowing your values, the lines you won't cross, And accepting the risk that will come with the loss. For sometimes the crowd will demand you conform, To shelter yourself from the gathering storm. But the one with the backbone stands rooted and tall, Prepared to be lonely, determined not to fall. It’s not just defiance, but honor and grace, To own your decisions in time and in place. So stand straight and proud, let your shoulders be wide, Let your unbending spirit be your truest guide.
