Scapegoat, Insanity He tells me I deserve this Tears sting my blackened eyes I want to run away so quickly Have someone hear my inner cries He’s in an alcoholic blackout Hatred carrying his pain He pours himself another I just try to get through it sane wincing now , I listen Eyes closed, don’t want to see "I'm not insane!", I whisper "Can't you see you’re hurting me?" Then there is the silence, A sign to move out of his path So I quickly find my solitude In his guilty aftermath So this week, I'll force my smile up Try hard to read his stoic face I'll clean up all the empty bottles And toss them with this torn up lace I'll make us look so happy And he'll disguise his hidden rage I couldn't keep my own though, Had to turn the ugly page So another night of yelling comes Fists finding me again I bite my lip and seal the sting, Another prayer to God,I send Bruised and pained, I take it- Says I deserve this, after all I pray that God will save me I build my crumbling safety wall I build it up so carefully It has to save my future life My husband pounces unpredictably I am his ready wife I shut out all his insults And I know they aren’t all true But overtaking me in violence There is nothing I can do By Sandy Sinn
