The wind bites hard, across the barren moor, My chainmail chills, a burden I endure. No joyous trumpets, herald my return, Only the raven's croak, a lesson I must learn. I slew the dragon, freed her from its hold, A princess fair, with stories to be told. Her gentle touch, a fleeting, sweet embrace, Before a prince, usurped my rightful place. The castle walls, a prison strong and high, Confined her spirit, 'neath a watchful eye. A royal smile, a gilded, hollow vow, Replaced my hope, with shadows dark as now. My trusty sword, once sharp and ever keen, Now feels so heavy, a sorrowful scene. The victory's bitter, the triumph incomplete, For love's a battle, I could not defeat. This weary heart, with sorrow deeply scarred, Bears witness to a love forever barred. No minstrel's song, can ease this aching pain, A lonely knight, condemned to endless rain. I am but mortal, subject to despair, A fallen hero, lost beyond compare.
