clouds when the sky is clear, it’s almost as if the world is boundless and all that exists; but when you decide to drift into sight, the earth gains a veil and loses its light. i could look down or gaze at the trees, but when i look up, you demoralize me. why must a distance so great be caught to cast one’s mind back onto the thought that, given how tiny each person must be, to believe in one’s own notability is to buy into tales of folk and fairy? it’s easy to curse you, but i’d rather say— it’s not your fault you’re so far away. for if you look up, then what you would see would make you feel just as hopeless as me
