It’s figuring out who you are when the world keeps changing the rules. She learned early that being “nice” doesn’t always mean being heard. That some people smile with sharp edges, and not every friend stays. There were days she wanted to disappear, shrinking into silence in classrooms, or staring in mirrors, wondering why she didn’t feel enough. But there were also moments a teacher who noticed, a friend who stayed late, a song that said what she couldn’t. She made mistakes. Said things she didn’t mean. Trusted people who didn’t deserve it. But still, she kept going. She outgrew old versions of herself — the quiet girl who apologized too much, the one who tried to fit in even when it didn’t feel right. And slowly, she started to see that strength isn’t loud and confidence doesn’t always show up right away. There were wins too: laughing until she cried, passing the test she thought she’d fail, saying “no” for the first time and meaning it. Thorns taught her caution. Roses taught her joy. And both — in their own way — helped her grow.
