I look in the mirror every day Sometimes it makes me feel good But most of the time it reminds me of the ache And then I zoom in on the smaller features The ways in which they hurt me How they made me feel like a creature Immediately my eyes flutter to my nose In the center of my face, where it's so easy to see I remember every time they compared it to Pinocchio's Next are my ears No one mentioned them but my own thoughts I can still only hear my brain's sneers Then it comes to my body Thighs that touch, Red, itchy arms, Hips that dip too much But if I look up after all that I can suddenly see the oceans my eyes hold The children that my non-flat stomach could carry The smile lines that'll show the joy of my life once I'm old When I have grown And look at my own child All of my beauty will be shown When I have aged I'm going to look in the mirror And I won't feel so caged I'll wonder why I didn't appreciate my own beauty And why I let their words hurt me Then I'll go and finally live free
