Damp tissues continue to pile up As the dim glow of the flickering candle Begins to fade, engulfed by empty blackness Reading words a heart-wrenched soul can't handle The paper hovers over a flame that's tiny and helpless Held by tired, trembling hands That have procrastinated for too long Hands that have stopped bothering To wipe glistening tears that hold a broken song But now has come a time for changing The suffocating spark catches a crisp white edge A flame ignites and quickly spreads No going back, the nagging memory turns to ash Elaborate handwriting falls away like loose threads Soon all that's left is black flakes That crumble at the slightest touch Whispers if hope begin to sprout Trapped in a narrow alley of the past for so long Cornered by persistent haunting thoughts And finally realizing that they were all wrong Letting go of what was never meant to take over And allowing God's healing voice to speak louder
