As others opened their doors, I stood with my hand outstretched, guiding them through, offering the quiet comfort of being held But my own door stayed sealed— glued along the edges, bolted tight with iron resolve, the key buried somewhere far beyond reach Then you arrived— an unaccounted variable, someone I never expected to meet, someone I never believed I was worthy of finding And slowly, I let go I let myself drift into your orbit, even if only for a little while As our conversations deepened, as the days unfolded, the glue began to soften, the bolts loosened one by one— a quiet miracle I reached for the handle with trembling hands, ready at last to open the door, ready to feel the warmth I had spent so long giving away to everyone else And when it finally opened, just enough for light to spill through, I could almost feel the warmth already— could almost believe there was something waiting for me on the other side But instead, a violent wind crashed into the door, slamming it shut again, driving the bolts deeper, sealing the cracks with stronger glue than before And now my heart sits behind it— locked away so completely that no one will ever reach it again
