Greetings family π« We wanna introduce you to a new poetic form today. It's called the Tanka. So what is Tanka poetry? Tanka is a 13-century-old form of Japanese poetry, translating to "short song," consisting of five lines with a 5-7-5-7-7 syllable structure. Unlike the shorter haiku, tanka offers more space to explore deep emotions, nature, and human relationships, often featuring a "pivot" line shifting from image to emotion. Below is an example of a tanka poem: Bees gather pollen (5 syllables) Which they bring back to their hives, (7) As I take breakfast: (5) Sweet honey spread over toast. (7) Scant reward for their labour. (7) β Iain Mackay Coming to the fun part, For your writing session today, compose a tanka poem. This is an open theme, which means you can write on any topic.
