Glue, traditionally used to put objects back together, but did you know it also works on humans? When I was young I almost cut my ear off, and as my parents rushed me to the ER, I wondered how they were going to put me back together. Glue: They glued me back together. They glued me back together like your mom's vase you broke when you were eight. They glued me together like that art project in fifth grade. They glued me back together like the ornaments you make during Christmas time. From that day I have been gluing myself together, trying to fix the cracks that ran across my arms and the scars that line my stomach. I glued myself together, trying to keep the mask I wear from falling apart. With every unkind word that is said, a hammer strikes me like a nail’s head. But I’m not made of steel, not even of wood; I am made of porcelain, you see, and with every hit I worry they’ll release the darkness within me. So I invest in better glue for I know this is true: the pounding will never stop no matter what I do.
