My first encounter with online toxicity wasn't in a dark comment section, it started with poetry. I was on a writing platform, so this guy got my number from there and chatted me... I replied thinking it would lead to literary conversations. Instead, I got him: a 28-year-old man from America. He was immediately over-sharing, dumping personal details I never asked for, and clearly expecting me to trade my life story in return. We talked about poetry, but the conversation quickly grew uncomfortable. He began writing "love poems" to me. I don't know him; he doesn't know me. I told him repeatedly that these things he was writing were fantasy, they were not about the real me. But he continued, spinning a fake romance. He’d talk about his country and send me his pictures, but I was careful. I made sure he knew nothing personal about me. I wasn't comfortable, but I was patient. His behavior escalated. He would send me photos of his food, his cooking and all, and I'd just reply with a neutral "hmmm." Then came the turning point. I was reading for an exam when he messaged, asking what I was doing. I told him I was reading. "Prove it," he demanded. I was stunned. "No, why do I need to prove anything?" I replied. He insisted, saying he needed to "know what I was doing." I firmly told him I was reading and didn't need his belief. He even video called me to confirm if I was reading... I was like who's this guy When I rejected his video call, the switch flipped, and the harassment began. The polite poet vanished, replaced by an aggressor. He immediately started accusing me...
