Even with the couple of cross-cultural terms I needed to lookup after reading (how did I not know that was called a kurta?!), what a powerfully modern bit of writing. It didn't affect my immersion or enjoyment at all, and I think my appreciation for the poem even deepened with the added context.
This is so heartbreaking, so specific, and yet it captures a similar kind of grievance that's cropping up all over the world. Very well written. Especially that last line. 🧑🍳🤌🏻
